Logistics
My ability in planning fieldwork logistics has matured over many years through my extracurricular activities. In particular, through volunteering as a SCUBA diving instructor I have been able to practice my skills in being required to plan and manage diving activities. This involves comprehensive passage planning, arrangement of diving pairs, ensuring that adequate supervision is maintained at all times, checking that all safety equipment is present, and managing the activities in real time throughout the day.
In my role as a Research Technician I am responsible for arranging the logistics of fieldwork, particularly boating activities. This requires that I plan for appropriate conditions, e.g. tide times, prevailing weather, and site access for launch and recovery. I am also responsible for ensuring that suitable personnel accompany me on board the boat as competent crew, and make sure that they are appropriately briefed and debrief, particularly regarding safety. As a commercial skipper I have built comprehensive experience.
