Marine Flora and Fauna
With a background in Marine Biology and as a volunteer Seasearch Observer, I have a range of experience in fieldwork relating to marine flora and fauna, particularly sub- and inter-tidal wildlife. My experience includes the following, amongst others:
Taxonomic identification
Marine invertebrate surveys Intertidal transects and sediment sampling Hydrographic monitoring Off-shore aquatic sampling |
Identification of marine and brackish intertidal and sub-tidal flora and fauna of the Irish Sea (including the use of dichotomous keys).
Sampling and specimen preservation techniques for wildlife from saline lagoon and rocky shore habitats Laying quadrats and transect lines to sample distribution of intertidal biodiversity and zonation. Sediment sampling conducting using Endecott sieves. Use of YSI multiparameter sonde to test for environmental water quality in and around Swansea Bay. A mixture of infaunal and epifaunal sampling techniques practiced including grab sampling, otter and beam trawling and mesozooplankton netting on board the RV Noctiluca, Swansea University. |
